About HERD

HERD is a non-profit organisation supporting mining-affected and vulnerable communities through awareness, advocacy, environmental protection, training and development support.

In the heart of Wonderkop, Marikana β€” where brave mine workers lost their lives fighting for fair wages β€” HERD stands with the community. Marikana sits atop one of the richest mineral belts in the world, yet poverty, inadequate infrastructure, trauma and unemployment persist. The scars of the 2012 tragedy remain deep. HERD is dedicated to healing, advocacy, and collaborative development that transforms hardship into hope.

By fostering dialogue, monitoring environmental harm, supporting local enterprises, and offering care & counselling, HERD ignites resilience and possibility for a brighter future.
